Briefing by the Indonesian G20 Presidency

1 April 2022

Mr. President, Excellencies,

We thank Ambassador Djani for his valuable briefing on the priorities of Indonesia’s G20 Presidency. India, as a member of the G20 Troika and the incoming G20 Presidency, stands in solidarity with Indonesia and supports Indonesian priorities in the G20. We wish your G20 Presidency all success, with substantive outcomes.

2. We welcome the Indonesian Presidency’s theme of “Recover Together, Recover Stronger” which captures the needs of the time. India fully supports their three broad priorities of global health architecture, digital transformation, and sustainable energy transitions, which we believe will contribute towards strong, sustainable, balanced, and inclusive growth for all. We also support Indonesia’s proposal to include major initiatives in the Leaders’ Communique, subject to their global impact as well as consensus on the G20 table.

3. Since the beginning of the Indonesian Presidency, we have participated actively in all G20 meetings. We have shared India’s achievements and experiences, and expressed support for an inclusive approach, with pragmatic and human-centric solutions to global issues. As the ‘Pharmacy of the World’, we continue to play our part to strengthen international efforts to fight the pandemic and assist developing countries, emphasizing vaccine equity and equitable access.

4. We have also stressed the need to protect and promote interests of MSMEs, small and marginal farmers, local food culture and traditional knowledge, as well as promote the use of digital technologies. On climate change, we have reiterated our commitment to specific targets announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at COP 26 last year, while also calling for an increased focus on consumption patterns, technology transfer and circular economy. We will continue to work towards promoting sustainable lifestyles, sustainable energy transitions, climate finance and technology, digital economy, progress towards SDGs, supply chain resilience, disaster risk reduction, eliminating plastic waste, focus on fugitive economic offenders, countering terrorism, and robust multilateralism.

5. As we work towards our own Presidency next year, we reiterate our readiness to continue to work closely with Indonesia and G20 member countries to further our shared priorities, in a spirit of continuity and consistency.
