PRESS RELEASE ON THE VISIT OF UNITED NATIONS SECRETARY GENERAL H.E. MR. BAN KI-MOON TO INDIA FROM 9-13 JANUARY, 2015
 
 
United Nations Secretary General (UNSG), H.E. Mr. Ban Ki-moon paid an official visit to India from 9-13 January, 2015.   UNSG was accompanied by a high-level delegation which included Under Secretary General for Political Affairs Mr. Jeffrey Feltman, and Senior Advisors Vijay Nambiar and Mrs. Lakshmi Puri.   This was his fourth visit to India as the UN Secretary-General.
 
 
UNSG was invited as the Guest of Honour and Keynote Speaker of the Vibrant Gujarat Summit on 11th January, 2015. He had a substantive bilateral exchange of views with Hon’ble Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi at the Vibrant Gujarat Summit, during which issues relating to the post-2015 Development Agenda, climate change, clean energy and issues relating to the UN Security Council were discussed. At the invitation of the Government of Gujarat, the UNSG visited Vadodara where he inaugurated the 10MW Narmada Canal Top solar power plant.  
 
 
UNSG called on Hon’ble President of India, H.E. Mr. Pranab Mukherjee, Hon’ble Speaker of the Lok Sabha Smt. Sumitra Mahajan and met Hon’ble External Affairs Minister Smt Sushma Swaraj, Hon’ble Raksha Mantri Shri Manohar Parikkar, and Hon’ble Minister of State for Environment and Forests Shri Prakash Javadekar on 12th and 13th January, 2015. Issues discussed included United Nations peacekeeping operations, matters relating to climate change and environment, growing global concerns on terrorism, the United Nations Security Council reform, the post-2015 Development Agenda (and the role of the International Parliamentary Union Conference of Presiding Officers to be held in New York in September 2015 in this context), and the status of negotiations under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. 
 
 
UNSG  delivered the 13th Annual Sapru Memorial Lecture at the Indian Council on World Affairs in New Delhi.
