A special event to commemorate the 126th birth anniversary of “Babasaheb” Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar will be held at the United Nations on 13 April 2017. Deputy Secretary General, United Nations, Ms. Amina J Mohammad will be the Keynote Speaker. The event will feature a Panel Discussion on “Empowering people through digital technologies for social and financial inclusion” and is organised by the Permanent Mission of India to the United Nations, in association with the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA) and a US-based NGO, Foundation for Human Horizon (that has ECOSOC Consultative Status).


 
Speakers at the event include Professor Katherine Newman, Provost and Vice Chancellor at University of Massachusetts Amherst, Ms. Julia Glidden (IBM), Ms. Padmaja Chunduru, Country Head-US operations, State Bank of India) and Mr. Ravi Narvekar (entrepreneur-The Indian Network) and Mr. Olivier Rabeschlag (Google). The event will be moderated by Professor Stan Kachnowski, HITLAB, Colombia University.


 
The theme reflects the overall vision of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar for equality, social justice and empowerment of the poor and the marginalized sections of the society. The participants will discuss the potential of using innovative Information Communication and Technology (ICT) solutions in achieving greater social and financial inclusion and implementation of the SDGs.


 
The event is part of the annual celebration of the birth anniversary of Dr. B.R Ambedkar at the United Nations. It is expected to bring together senior UN officials, diplomats, academia, civil society and private sector from India, US and other parts of the world.
