Approved Remarks

Thank You Chair for giving me the floor. We thank Padre Francisco de Roux, President of the Colombian Truth Commission and other briefers for their presentations. I will be brief in my remarks.

2.    The release of the final report of the Truth Commission recently marks a major watershed in the modern history of Colombia. It is a seminal effort that has brought to fore the importance of reconciliation, by revealing the truth that was shrouded in the killings of countless people in the four decades of the conflict.

3.    As Mahatma Gandhi said, “Non-violence and Truth are inseparable and pre-suppose one another”.

4.    We hope the implementation of the report of the Truth Commission will contribute to the process of reconciliation and help in building a more inclusive, peaceful, secure and prosperous future for all Colombians. We firmly believe that peace is the foundation to build stable communities and societies.

5.    The peace process in Colombia continues to be a source of inspiration.  The international community needs to continue to support the Government and people of Colombia in their journey to consolidate and sustain peace. India reaffirms its support to this end.

I thank you.
