General Assembly General Assembly

Thank you Chair for giving me the floor,

We thank all the speakers for their useful briefings.

India has always argued for comprehensive sustainable development, inclusive economic growth and political processes for preventing conflict as well as undertaking effective peacebuilding efforts.

This is obviously not easy and requires a long term commitment and sustained investment, including a vastly expanded funding.

As mentioned by you, for UN's own peacebuilding efforts to have an impact, a significantly enhanced level of funding is required.

On our part, India has been a member of the Peacebuilding Commission since its inception, and has contributed US$ 5 million to the Peacebuilding Fund so far.

Today, we are happy to announce a further contribution of US$ 0.5 million to the Peacebuilding Fund. The contribution will be effected shortly over the coming days.

We hope that the Peacebuilding Fund will be able to attract much greater funding as we go along so that the UN efforts to build and sustain peace can have greater impact on the ground.

India will continue to work together with other partners to strengthen the UN Peace Building Architecture.

Thank you.
